Correction Code

Correction Code 馃挮

Do you know what a correction code is, well I'm going to explain in less words. It's a way to show the learners the mistakes they have made in their writing.

You know, this is a heavy process for a teacher, because as a teacher you don't have to check only one writing you have to check according to the number of students and your rubric or criteria.

In a correction code, the teacher usually underlines the mistake and shows the kind of mistake it is (punctuation, grammar, word order, spelling, word choice, coherence, etc).

To correct these mistakes it's important to use proofreading symbols. You were wondering what proofreading symbols or marks are, as its name says marks or symbols that teachers are going to use to show our students where the mistakes are. In this process of correction, we use different symbols or marks for changing capital letters, inserting a full stop, correcting the spelling, deleting a letter, inserting a comma, new paragraph, etc. In the next picture, you can see some symbols that you can use.

I suggest that you create your own correction codes and let your students know those codes.

As teachers, we have to remember that making a mistake is not wrong because our students don't know, they haven't learned it or simply they forget it. When we have to correct mistakes it's important that as teachers we try to give our students positive feedback, if you praise their effort the learner did well. Believe me, he/she feels motivated, and the next time the learner tries to do well. During that, positive feedback gives the student the chance to self-correct.

Remind teacher!

Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Watch the mistakes as a teaching opportunity for you and your students.
